Crystal Dynamics sends along word about a limited run of the new Tomb Raider prints available for purchase.

Needless to say, we’re a big fan of the work of artist Sam Spratt. His magazine cover art for our Top 50 Games of 2012 is a favorite around the GI office. The new artwork (viewable below) was commissioned by Crystal Dynamics to commemorate her return to gaming screens.

“Crystal Dynamics approached me a couple of months back after seeing the Top 50 games of 2012 cover I did for you guys,” Spratt tells us. “They were really passionate about the game, yet unlike most people who have spent years crafting something incredible, they basically gave me, a complete stranger, free reign to depict their beloved Lara and Tomb Raider in whatever way I liked. Mostly I just tried not to make them regret that decision, but after a mess of preliminary research and sketches, trying to mix a bit of that gritty new look with something a bit more nostalgic and vibrant -- we ended up here.”

Crystal Dynamics plans to release a limited run of the art piece as a print available for purchase on March 5th, which just so happens to be the release date for the game. Still trying to decide if you’ll play the new Lara Croft game? Read our review of Tomb Raider
