Minecraft creator Markus "Notch" Persson was not able to fund a sequel to Psychonauts, but he is funding Age of Wonders III.

According to Eurogamer, Persson has provided enough money so that developer Triumph Studios can skip getting a publisher for their new PC game, though that does not rule out any co-publishing deals.

Apparently, the Minecraft developer is a fan of the Age of Wonders series, and after being contacted by Lennart Sas, co-owner and managing director of Triumph, via email, a deal started to develop.

"It certainly didn't happen overnight," Sas told Eurogamer, "and he kept a healthy business sense towards the project. His biggest concern was that it would cost him a lot of time, so it helped that we made this sort of game before and were at an advanced stage of development.”

The game is set to hit in late 2013. Read our announcement story and watch the launch trailer.
