Sony initially created some buzz for the Vita prior to its release, thanks to the console's impressive graphical capability and hardware features. Despite this, that buzz hasn't translated into sales as well as the company had hoped.

In a new interview with The Wall Street Journal, Sony CEO Kaz Hirai addressed the Vita's struggle with sales numbers. “I would say it’s on the low end of what we expected,” said Hirai. He then noted that it's too early to determine whether the console is a success or failure, saying it would take five to ten years to say that with any certainty.

With little-to-no big games on the horizon for the portable, here's hoping Sony has some big announcements lined up for 2013.
