Feel Free To Swear At Dead Space 3

by Ben Reeves on Dec 28, 2012 at 02:15 PM

Using Microsoft's Kinect peripheral, Visceral Games may have figured out a way to encourage players to curse at their consoles.

Microsoft's marketing line "Better with Kinect," sounds good, but we've rarely found Kinect integration anything more than novel. Dead Space 3's use of the peripheral, however, might encourage a few potty mouths to go buy the system.

In a recent interview with CVG, Dead Space 3's executive producer Steve Papoutsis said, "We actually have some commands that people will need to figure out. But there are commands where you might be in a certain situation and you might yell a specific expletive and it might behave in a way that you want it to. We definitely have done some things there..."

This reminds me a little of how the old GameCube game Eternal Darkness would screw with player's expectations. It sounds like easily frustrated gamers will want to leave their Kinect plugged in why playing Dead Space 3, which comes out on February 5. The rest of us are encouraged to be experimental.
