Valve Removes The War Z From Steam

by Mike Mahardy on Dec 19, 2012 at 09:25 AM

Following its recent launch, Hammerpoint Interactive's zombie survival game has been removed from Steam due to fan outcry.

There's been a growing controversy surrounding The War Z and Hammerpoint Interactive's treatment of its customers over the past few weeks. The latest complaint from fans centers on the Steam description for the game, which many War Z players call misleading at best. A petition was created calling on Valve to remove the game from its service, but the company has already taken action.

"From time to time a mistake can be made, and one was made by prematurely issuing a copy of War Z for sale via Steam," Valve vice president of marketing Doug Lombardi said in a statement to Polygon. "We apologize for this and have temporary removed the sale offering of the title until we have time to work with the developer and have confidence in a new build. Those who purchase the game and wish to continue playing it via Steam may do so. Those who purchased the title via Steam and are unhappy with what they received may seek a refund by creating a ticket at our support site here."

There's no word yet on when The War Z might return to Steam, but judging from the ire of its fans, Hammerpoint has a lot of work to do to regain their trust.
