David Jaffe, the director of the first God of War, shared a development story about creating the Spartan with a temper on his personal blog.

Throughout development, Kratos had blue stripes, but mere days before the game was to be announced to the press, someone on the team pointed out how similar he looked to the Barbarian from Diablo II. Jaffe said, "I had played Diablo I but never II, and this was sure news to me," so they decided to change it, "lickity f***in' split!"
