Epic was hesitant to reveal a time-frame for when the beta would begin, but it was able to confirm that it is definitely happening.

At Epic's PAX 2012 panel, it gave away a code to a lucky attendee to enter the Fortnite beta. Epic had previously given away a ticket at Comic Con 2012. Joystiq spoke to Epic's Cliff Bleszinski and producer Tanya Jessing about the beta after the panel. Neither offered a date, but it is happening eventually.
