The 3DS XL Screen Will Reduce Glare

by Kyle Hilliard on Jul 22, 2012 at 11:27 AM

Along with a number of advantages over the 3DS, the most obvious being additional screen real estate, the 3DS XL also reduces glare.

Thanks to special screen treatments passed up on the original 3DS model in favor of keeping prices lower, the 3DS XL reduces screen glare by 6%. Nintendo president Satoru Iwata said, "Anti-reflection has been a topic every time since the Game Boy Advance system, but most of the time we had to give it up because of the cost."

I am honestly excited about the 3DS XL. It looks like a pretty solid system, but I think I would have rather had 100% more circle pad, than 6% less glare. Obviously the two aren't mutually exclusive, but I wanted to complain about the lack of a second circle pad in some way.

The 3DS XL will be available on August 19.
