Earthworm Jim Designer Talks About The Future Of The Franchise

by Kyle Hilliard on Jul 18, 2012 at 03:55 AM

In a recent interview with Eurogamer, the original designer behind Earthworm Jim, Dave Perry, discussed the future of the character. Perry said that it's not so much a matter of whether or not there will be another Earthworm Jim game, so much as when.

The full interview can be read by clicking here. Perry talks about his regrets in regard to the franchise, like the abysmal Nintendo 64 game and selling his company Shiny Entertainment to Interplay. Perhaps the most interesting part of the interview, is when Perry talks about where Jim would go next. The team apparently keeps in touch on Facebook and even tossed around the idea of a Kickstarter. Perry said that a new Earthworm Jim would likely begin with Jim in retirement.

"He's been sitting at home watching movies and eating popcorn. He's grossly overweight now" said Perry.  The plan was to start with him literally getting off the sofa, and it's a disaster because he just hasn't done anything since. But he's got to get back into action again." Perry also said that whenever a new Earthworm Jim does release, it will be a 2D game.

This all sounds great to me. I would love a brand-new 2D Earthworm Jim.
