Rumor: Sony Briefly Considered Online Only For Its Next Console

by Kyle Hilliard on May 30, 2012 at 02:28 PM

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that a, "person familiar with the matter," said that Sony considered, but ultimately rejected a plan for its next home console to be online only.

According to the source, Sony rejected the idea of an online only console because the Internet is unreliable on a global scale. I would guess that the PSP Go's disappointing showing also had something to do with Sony's decision, but what do I know. I am only familiar with the video game industry.

The Wall Street Journal is also saying that Sony is planning to release its new console next year, and that Microsoft's new console will also include a disc drive instead of being a download only system like some have believed it may be.

E3 is next week and rumors of new consoles from both Microsoft and Sony have been circulating, so we should find out some more information soon.
