Details On Bungie's New Project 'Destiny' Revealed

by Jim Reilly on May 21, 2012 at 12:57 PM

Update: Bungie issued the following statement tonight:

So, yeah. While we’re not ready to show you what we’ve been working on, we can reconfirm that we are hard at work on our new universe. We can’t wait for you to see it. See you starside in 2013.

A previously sealed court document obtained by the Los Angeles Times outlines the contract developer Bungie signed with Activision back in 2010 to create a new franchise.

According to the contract, Bungie will develop four "sci-fantasy, action shooter games," code named "Destiny," that will be released every other year starting next fall. Bungie will also put out four downloadable expansion packs, code named "Comet," every other year beginning fall of 2014.

Additionally, the first "Destiny" game will be released first on Xbox 360 and potentially Microsoft's new console. The other three games will then be released on consoles from Microsoft and Sony as well as PC.

Also detailed in the contract is that Bungie is potentially working on another Marathon game, which the studio cannot devote no more than 5 percent of its staff to while working under Activision.

The document was made public as part of the on-going lawsuit between Activision and former Infinity Ward heads Jason West and Vince Zampella. Both Bungie and Activision have been reached for comment.
