Investment Firm Saves UK Game Stores

by Jim Reilly on Apr 01, 2012 at 10:00 AM

London-based private investment firm OpCapita announced today it has purchased Game Group stores.

The troubled company entered administration late last month and closed 277 of its stores. The BBC reports that the deal includes the 333 of Game Group's UK stores that are still open. Roughly 3,200 Game Group employees will now keep their job. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

"We strongly believe there is a place on the high street for a video gaming specialist and Game is the leading brand in a £2.8bn market in the UK," said Henry Jackson, managing partner at OpCapita.

"We have assembled a strong team of experienced industry operators to implement the program of operational change that is needed."
