Epic Gets Together With The Government For Games

by Matthew Kato on Mar 27, 2012 at 11:08 AM

Proving that the government doesn't always get it wrong, Uncle Sam has licensed Epic's ubiquitous Unreal Engine 3 for some of its training/simulation games.

The multi-year partnership between the two covers a variety of platforms (including iOS, Android, Wii U, Mac, Xbox 360, PS3, and more) through Virtual Heroes' establishment of the Unreal Government Network (UGN). Virtual Heroes specializes in "interactive learning solutions" (advice: It's more fun if you call them "games") for corporate training. Or in this case, the government.

Virtual Heroes is already working on some Unreal 3-led projects, including NASA's Moonbase Alpha, medical sim HumanSim, an FBI crime scene trainer, and more.

"We recognize the growing market needs of our government customers," said Dr. Michael Capps, Epic's president, "and are excited to have Virtual Heroes provide a full spectrum of focused services and support using our game engine technology.”
