South Carolina Lieutenant Governor Used Campaign Money For PlayStation 3, iPads

Here's a good lesson for everyone: With great power comes great responsibility. Sadly that includes the responsibility to not spend work-related funds on video games and electronics if you decide to pursue the power of public office.

TalkingPointsMemo has the latest word on South Carolina lieutenant governor Ken Ard, who admitted to spending campaign donations on a variety of personal purchases including a PlayStation 3 and multiple iPads. This past Friday Ard resigned from his position as lieutenant governor and pleaded guilty to the charges.

Though Ard could have faced jail time for this violation, the New York Times reports that he was sentenced to five years of probation, a $5,000 fine, and 300 hours of community service.

Getting more gamers into the realm of politics seems like a good thing, but if you take the same route, maybe hold off from blowing the campaign funds on your favorite hobby?
