Chris Rock Turned Down Daxter Role

by Jim Reilly on Feb 27, 2012 at 11:07 AM

Developer Naughty Dog apparently had big plans for the voice cast of the Jak and Daxter series.

Co-founder Jason Rubin said over Twitter the studio asked actor/comedian Chris Rock to voice Daxter back in 2000. "Chris Rock just admitted how easy voice acting is. Why did he turn down @Naughty_Dog for the role of Daxter in the year 2000 for $250k? #Oscars."

Rubin also noted that actor/comedian George Carlin was approached to play Samos the Sage. Eventually, Naughty Dog settled on Sopranos actor Max Casella for the Daxter role. "Max Casella made Daxter. We were lucky the [sic] Chris Rock turned us down. Daxter would not have been the same character!"

Rubin left Naughty Dog in 2004.
