Korean Ratings Board Thinks Diablo III Has Gambling

by Kyle Hilliard on Jan 07, 2012 at 09:56 AM

The problem is the auction house. Committee members on the Korean ratings board think that the auction house featured in Diablo III could be considered a form of gambling.

This is holding up the process of releasing the game. Blizzard has had to resubmit the game a third time after the ratings board rejected the game the first two times.

In the auction house players can bid on found items in the game that other players bring forward, and players will even be able to exchange in game currency with real life money. For Blizzard's third attempt at submitting the game to the Korean ratings board, the option to exchange in game currency for real money has been removed, but that doesn't automatically mean the game will be approved.

These issues may affect the North American release of the game. Blizzard wants to release Diablo III as a global launch, with all countries getting the same version of the game. On the bright side though, Diablo III's release date is still indeterminate, so technically, it can't be officially delayed.
