Ron Gilbert Teases New Double Fine Game

by Matt Helgeson on Nov 29, 2011 at 10:15 AM

Ron Gilbert, the legendary creator of Maniac Mansion and Monkey Island, is following up his well-received DeathSpank with a new project he's developing for Double Fine.

The partnership with Double Fine is apt, as Gilbert and Double Fine founder Tim Schafer worked together at LucasArts on games like The Secret of Monkey Island, Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge, and Day of the Tentacle.

As to this new project, Gilbert revealed concept art of two playable characters, saying, "Here are a couple of fine pieces of concept art from the game I'm making with the amazing folks at Double Fine. I'm so excited. This is an idea that has been in my head for a long long long time. It predates Maniac Mansion and Monkey Island. It's a game that needed to be made."

While we don't know anything more about the game or the plot, the original JPGs for these characters were titled "thescientist.jpg" and "themobster.jpg." So, we know this game involves organized crime and science.
