Activision's Kotick Questions Star Wars: The Old Republic's Potential Profitability

by Matthew Kato on Nov 29, 2011 at 04:05 AM

The first battle in Activision and EA's Call of Duty vs. Battlefield war might be over for now, but that doesn't mean the two companies don't have other chances to spar. Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick has fired a shot against EA/BioWare's Star Wars: The Old Republic, questioning the MMO's potential profitability.

Speaking at a Reuters Media Summit, Kotick said, "Lucas[Arts] is going to be the principal beneficiary of the success of Star Wars," he said. "We've been in business with Lucas for a long time, and the economics will always accrue to the benefit of Lucas, so I don't really understand how the economics work for Electronic Arts."

Having dealt with LucasArts, Kotick's opinion isn't entirely without merit, but you'd think that the bean-counters over at EA already have things covered.
