Gaming Industry Gears Up For Movember

by Jeff Cork on Nov 02, 2011 at 04:00 AM

It's Movember, which is the time of year where men across the globe grow mustaches as a way to raise money for charity and scare children. This year, Crystal Dynamics has added a nice element of competition. A variety of studios, publishers, and other industry types are competing to see who can grow the best (?) mustache. It's all a fun way to raise money and awareness about men's health.

The Gaming Challenge pits teams including Forza Follicles, Sandbox 'Staches, and Eidos Mo-treal against one another to see who can raise the most money, which goes toward campaigns against prostate and testicular cancers. In all, the Gaming Challenge has more than 350 participants from 20 different developers and publishers worldwide.

"As a studio we’re always up for a laugh and light-hearted fun, especially in the name of a good cause,” says Crystal Dynamics' global brand director Karl Stewart. “Considering a large sector of the industry has been entrenched in Movember effort for years, there seemed a perfect opportunity to join forces for both a collaborative and competitive initiative."

The Movember movement has raised more than $174 million since it began in 2004. More than 1.1 million men have participated, to the delight and amusement of their fellow men and the quiet scorn of women everywhere. Don't worry; it's only temporary.
