What XBLA Games Sold Well In September?

by Matt Miller on Oct 26, 2011 at 10:24 AM

Though sales numbers are hard to come by, some careful analysis reveals a competitive month of games released on Xbox Live.

Thanks to some time-intensive investigation by Gamasutra, we've got what should be a reasonably accurate picture of how new Live Arcade games fared in a busy month of releases. By examining the number of entries on the online leaderboards for various games, an approximation of sales numbers begins to emerge.

Several interesting statistics show up within the data. Crimson Alliance far outstripped its competitors among other new titles that released in the September timeframe, with over 88,000 new players. However, it's worth noting that Crimson Alliance came free to players who bought all five of the Summer of Arcade games back in July and August. Crimson Alliance also released early in the month, giving it a headstart over some of the competition. The next nearest new games didn't fare as well; The Baconing had less than 10,000 new players, and Renegade Ops around 12,000.

The XBLA leaderboards paint a broader picture of long-term sales as well. Full House Poker is on track to be the highest selling XBLA game of the year, with nearly 400,000 entries in its leaderboards. In addition, Fruit Ninja Kinect appears to be edging out Toy Soldiers: Cold War as the top seller within this year's Summer of Arcade, likely helped along by a free download code for the Fruit Ninja Kinect that came with The Gunstringer.

If you're into examining game sale statistics, GamaSutra has the above data and lots more to pore over in their full article on the subject. Make sure to check it out.
