If you played World of Warcraft back in its early days, your adventures were probably housed in one of Blizzard's HP BladeSystem servers. Now the company is auctioning off the hardware and donating the proceeds St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

According to Blizzard, the server blades being auctioned off once held hundreds of North American and European WoW realms…owning one would be like owning a piece of WoW history.

In a press release, Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime said: "World of Warcraft realms are like the virtual neighborhoods of the game's community – they contain the spaces where millions of players have made friendships, forged friendly rivalries, and created lasting memories. Each winner in this auction will own a small monument to those collective experiences."

The charity receiving the funds, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, is a center for the research and treatment of serious childhood diseases like pediatric cancer.

The auctions will take place on Blizzard's eBay page beginning October 17. Approximately 2,000 of the server blades will be up for bidding, and each will be contained in a custom windowed case. So, you'd not only be helping a worthy cause – you'd be getting something awesome in return.
