Black velvet never caught on in the art world the same way that canvas did. Perhaps it's because the surface is inherently silly. Maybe it's because of its association with black lights and that subversive counterculture. All of those bad pictures of Elvis certainly didn't help it gain any cred. At any rate, artist Kyle Kulakowski is doing his darndest to show that black velvet ain't completely dead. How? With video games, of course.
He's posted a bunch of his work on his deviantART page, and while it sounds like a tremendous gimmick, the results show that game imagery and black velvet are like peanut butter and chocolate. The fact that he references classics like Robotron: 2084 and Paperboy is just gravy. Chocolate and peanut-butter flavored gravy.
