The Binding Of Isaac Out Now

by Jeff Marchiafava on Sep 28, 2011 at 12:01 PM

The new roguelike from Team Meat's Edmund McMillen is now available on Steam for $5.

It might not be an official Team Meat game, but the art style will be instantly familiar to fans of Super Meat Boy. However, The Binding of Isaac has its own selling points, including randomly generated dungeons inspired by The Legend of Zelda, 50+ enemy types that also sport randomized elements, and 100+ items to boost your character.

Being a roguelike, The Binding of Isaac is over the first time you die. McMillen has stated that this is a core issue that players may not understand, and has written this informative blog post to explain why permadeath is not a bad thing (the game's randomized elements are meant to make the game feel different every time you play, so starting over should be a good thing). It also serves as an interesting insight into how the game's systems function, so I suggest you check it out before you buy the game.

Adam is currently playing the game and will share his opinion in the following days, but based on the amount of expletives coming from his desk, I'd say he's enjoying it.

You can also listen to the 64-minute soundtrack to the game right here, and buy your own copy for 99 cents (or more if you're nice -- you are nice, aren't you?). It was created by Danny Baranowsky, who is responsible for Super Meat Boy's soundtrack, so it's definitely worth checking out!
