David Cage Won’t Make Heavy Rain 2

by Ben Reeves on Sep 28, 2011 at 01:41 PM

When Quantic Dream’s Heavy Rain released in early 2010, it receive critical praise and sold better than many expected. Naturally, creator David Cage was pleased, but the designer isn’t itching to continue that success with a sequel – far from it.

In a recent interview with Develop-Online, Cage talked about his passion for making games. “Let me be stupid for one second; I’m not in this business to make money. I wrote Heavy Rain because I was excited about it, because there was something to say. Yeah I could make Heavy Rain 2, but I’ve said what I’ve had to say about it. That’s the strength of Quantic Dream, to have the capacity to create new ideas, to make something that breaks ground.”

Later on Cage added, “I still think I’m doing something important. That may sound naïve in this industry, but I still think I’m here to be creative. I just have a company because I need that structure to develop my ideas.”

We liked Heavy Rain, but the title didn’t really beg for a sequel, and we’d be happy to see Cage work on a different project if that’s where his passions lie. What about you? What do you think a Heavy Rain sequel would look like?
