No Diablo III Until 2012

by Matt Bertz on Sep 23, 2011 at 05:24 AM

Playing the beta of Blizzard's highly anticipated action RPG will have to do for now.

In a blog post titled "Soon Was Too Soon," Blizzard co-founder Mike Morhaime broke the news to fans that Diablo III isn't quite ready for prime time. "I know that many of you were hopeful that Diablo III would ship this year," he wrote. "We were too. However, this week we pulled together people from all of the teams involved with the game to decide whether we felt it would be ready before the end of December, and we grudgingly came to the conclusion that it would not. Ultimately, we feel that to deliver an awesome Diablo sequel that lives up to our expectations and yours as well, we should take a little more time and add further polish to a few different elements of the game."

The good news is now you have more time on your schedule to tackle the ridiculously jam-packed lineup of games this holiday that includes potential games of the year like Batman: Arkham City, Battlefield 3, Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Saints Row: The Third, and Assassin's Creed: Revelations. Just typing that list makes me wonder when the hell I'll have the time to play all these great titles.

If you really have your heart set on playing Diablo III, you'll be happy to know that Blizzard is extending the beta and inviting more participants.
