Starbreeze Creating New IP With Swedish Filmmaker

by Bryan Vore on Sep 19, 2011 at 06:17 AM

The Darkness and Chronicles of Riddick developer is moving away from other companies' properties (after EA's Syndicate, of course) through a new partnership with movie director Josef Fares.

"Who is this guy?" you may ask. Well, according to Starbreeze, he "became a household name in Sweden with the box office hit Jalla! Jalla!" Fares went on to release Kopps, Zozo, and Farsan, which were also apparently blockbusters in Sweden.

“I love games, and I have been working on a games concept for quite some time. The more I worked with the concept, the more convinced I felt that this is a solid game idea” says Josef Fares (seen above on the right with Starbreeze CEO Mikael Nermark). “Together with Story Lab we created a prototype that we presented to Starbreeze, and they instantly liked the concept.”

The Story Lab, which helped create the game idea, is some kind of entertainment consulting firm.

I'm always up for more Starbreeze, and it'll be interesting to see what it does with its own property. Too bad it'll likely take at least a couple years before we hear much more about the project.
