Sega Plans To Resurrect Classic Franchises

by Ben Reeves on Aug 23, 2011 at 08:15 AM

Sega has been riding its blue hedgehog for so long, we’ve almost forgotten about many of its other properties. But Sega claims it never forgets, and it says we can expect to see several of its old properties reinvented in the coming years.

In a recent interview with VG247, Sega West president Mike Hayes said, “We constantly review the IP we’ve got in the locker because that’s one of Sega’s big advantages…every month, we review the locker of IP and think, ‘how could we release those and if so, what are we going to? Will it be a big game, digital, free-to-play?’ We constantly look at it. What I can say is that you will continue to see a reinvention of classic Sega IP coming to various platforms over the next three-five years.”

Sega is already planning a new Shinobi for 3DS, and we hope that game can reinvigorate the dormant franchise. We’d also like to see Sega return to a few of it classic franchises such as Ecco the Dolphin, Panzer Dragoon, and Jet Set Radio. But if Sega is going to pull another Golden Axe: Beast Rider on us, then forget about it.
