UPDATE: Swiss Police Association Wants To Ban Darkness II

by Matthew Kato on Aug 12, 2011 at 01:45 PM

A Swiss police association wants to band The Darkness II in Switzerland because cops can be shot at and killed in the game, but 2K says that police aren't in the game.

UPDATE: We contacted 2K for an official response and this is what the company responded with, "Reported stories regarding police officers in The Darkness II were erroneous. To be clear, there are no police officers in the game."

Does this mean that The Swiss Christian Police Association will call off their attempt to ban the game? Will a Swiss Mob Organization suddenly speak up about all the mob casualties in the Darkness II? We'll just have to wait and see.

ORIGINAL STORY: An organization called The Swiss Christian Police Association is calling for a ban on the title, which comes out February 10 over in Europe (and February 7 in the U.S.). "Politicians, game producers, and sellers have been advised that such games be immediately removed from circulation," says Felix Ceccato, the association's president. "When police in England are the target of mobs running amok, it is important that police are not portrayed as the enemy."

Swiss consumer association Gamerights is already protested the suggestion, and we wonder if publisher 2K Games might be quietly thanking the Association for mentioning its game. Controversy sells, and there were certainly a lot of other games you could have mentioned where people can pop off at the police.
