Xbox And Kinect Help Microsoft Break Revenue Records
Microsoft just released an impressive earnings report for the fourth quarter of the 2011 financial year. The software giant's bottom line is very strong -- thanks in large part to strong revenue from Xbox 360 and its related businesses.
The company announced a total revenue of $17.37 billion (and $5.87 in net profit) for Q4, an increase of 8 percent over the same period last year. Yearly revenue came in at $69.94 billion, 12 percent up from fiscal year 2010.
Much of the revenue came from a 45 percent increase in sales from Microsoft's Entertainment & Devices division -- which includes Xbox 360 and Kinect. Interestingly, the Bing and Online Services division also showed a 17 percent increase, even though I don't know anyone who uses Bing. Guess those funny commercials are paying off.
