L.A. Noire, Xbox 360 Top June NPD Charts, 3DS Sales Sluggish

by Matt Helgeson on Jul 14, 2011 at 02:40 PM

It looks like Rockstar's L.A. Noire has some legs. The open-world detective game topped the NPD charts for the second straight month, beating out another game from the 2K family, Duke Nukem Forever.

Overall, sales of both video game software and hardware were down from the same month a year ago (falling off 12 percent and 9 percent respectively). Hardware sales totaled $366.6 million and software sales totaled $469.5 million.

Other games making a splash on the top ten include Sony's Infamous 2, which placed third (keep in mind it's a PS3 exclusive, not multiplatform) and Nintendo's remake of Ocarina of Time, which according to a press release from Nintendo sold 283,000 units.

While we don't know the sales for PlayStation 3, Xbox spokesman Major Nelson tweeted "Just saw the #NPD's Xbox sold 507k consoles in June, nearly 2x the nearest competitor."

Nintendo had a rougher month, selling 386,000 Nintendo DS units, 273,000 Wiis, and a paltry 143,000 Nintendo 3DS units. That 3DS number should be a little disturbing considering the fact that it had a bona fide triple-A title in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on store shelves.
