Sony Foolishly Predicts 5-3 NL Win In MLB All-Star Game
Ever since we've had sports sims, we can't help but use them to predict the outcome of real sporting events. Sony is the latest prognosticator, with a slick video production of MLB 11 The Show giving a ludicrous 5-3 victory to the National League in this year's Major League Baseball All-Star Game.
I don't know what madness possessed Sony to validate what can only be described as a farcical result. Baseball is a sport in which the superior team tends to win; I'm not sure what flaw in the game's code could have resulted in this aberration.
As silly as this is, it's barely a blip on the larger stupidity radar, which is wholly occupied registering the fact that the All-Star game determines home-field advantage in the World Series. So there's that.
Wait up, hold on a minute. I'm just now being told that the best player in the American League (and therefore baseball in the whole world, if not history itself) isn't on the All-Star team this year. ESPN tells me he's hitting .243 with no home runs, having played only 31 games this year…something is wrong.
I'm going to have to get back to you on this. There may be a larger disturbance in the fabric of baseball itself. If this isn't confined to Sony's video game, we could be in bigger trouble than I thought.
