The mad scientists at Microsoft are cooking up some interesting new cross-platform features.
Last February, Microsoft showcased the gaming possibilities made possible by using Kinect and Windows Phone 7 together. Now a new video shows how the company is thinking outside the box when it comes to marrying the two platforms. Presumably used in conjunction with Xbox Live's pending live television support, soon users may be able to use Kinect voice controls to send television scheduling reminders to their Windows Phones or use Bing while watching advertisements to locate nearby businesses that carry the product on screen. Microsoft may eventually use these features to buoy support for the Windows Phone, which currently lags well behind both Apple's iOS and Google's Android operating systems. Given the platform's slow adoption rate, however, if Redmond wants these features to gain wide adoption it may be wiser to support other phones as well.
We still don't have a timetable as to when Microsoft plans to make these features available, but we're betting it's sometime after the live TV support launches on Xbox Live this fall.
