Journey Closed Beta Starts Tomorrow

by Bryan Vore on Jun 27, 2011 at 11:05 AM

Thatgamecompany's followup to Flow and Flower on PlayStation Network features an intriguing take on multiplayer. Find out how you can test it out early.

For those not familiar with Journey's premise, players take on the role of a desert traveler as he makes his way to a far off mountain. Along the way you may meet other players if you're connected to the Internet, and you can decide to team up or ignore them at your leisure. The unusual thing about it is you don't "join" up in a traditional sense in online lobbies, and you can't chat through voice or text. In concept, it's all about working together through nonverbal cues via some kind of auto connect.

Sony and the dev are putting this unique idea through its paces starting tomorrow, June 28. This invite-only beta period will last through July 12 according to a post on the PlayStation Blog from Sony Santa Monica's Randall Lowe. But how do you get invited?

If you were "one of the very earliest adopters of Flower" and are a PlayStation Plus subscriber, you should receive an invite over PSN soon. If you'd like to get in on the beta and don't qualify, there will be code giveaways on the PlayStation Blog and various "media partner" sites.

Right now, you can try your luck at thatgamecompany's Facebook page. The developer is accepting requests until 7 p.m. PST today so get rolling!
