Where Is Sledgehammer's Call Of Duty Spinoff?

by Adam Biessener on Jun 23, 2011 at 10:33 AM

Remember when Dead Space creator Glen Schofield's new Activision studio, Sledgehammer Games, was going to make an action/adventure Call of Duty game? It might be, or it might not, but either way Activision doesn't want to talk about anything CoD-related until Modern Warfare 3 is out.

"All I can say is right now [Sledgehammer is] 100 percent focused on Modern Warfare 3," Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg told IndustryGamers.

Hirshberg didn't write off the never-quite-announced title, though. "They were originally working on an extension of the Call of Duty franchise into an action/adventure genre and that’s a game I still want to play," the executive said.

Try as I might, I can't find any hidden messages here. If I had to guess, I'd say that the game is still on and Activision is just doing everything it can to keep all the hype focused on MW3. After all, you don't murder just about every other arm of your company and then not make as many Call of Duty games as possible.
