[Update]: Square Enix Looking Into Wii U
[Update]: A report that Square Enix was looking into some form of Wii U compatibility for Wii title Dragon Quest X has been clarified. Square Enix is very much interested in the Wii U, but not for Dragon Quest X.
The Japanese blog that originally posted the story has since issued a clarification that Square Enix's interest in Wii U was totally separate from DQ X.
[Original Story]: Developers are excited about the possibilities of Nintendo's Wii U console and its controller, and Square Enix says it needs to start exploring ways games like Dragon Quest X can possibly make use of the system.
Dragon Quest X is a Wii game, but Andriasang reports that at a shareholder's meeting in Japan, Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada said that the company is considering making the game compatible on both the Wii and Wii U. Wada also said that Square Enix is conducting technical investigations in how it can support the Wii U.
It's unclear if Wada was referring to a stand-alone Wii U release for DQ X or merely some way of the Wii title having some augmented functionality on the Wii U. Much is still up in the air about the Wii U's capabilities, so these kinds of ambiguous statements from companies are to be expected for the time being. Dragon Quest X for the Wii has no firm release date at the moment, so you have to wonder how that might factor into Square's plans as well.
