Ubisoft Details What Wii U Will Bring To Assassin’s Creed’s Gameplay

by Jeff Marchiafava on Jun 08, 2011 at 04:50 PM

The third game Ubisoft discussed at this evening's Nintendo roundtable is an Assassin’s Creed game, which is shrouded in as much mystery as the titular Assassins. Despite not showing so much as a trailer, the developer did reveal a couple of ways Assassin’s Creed will play differently on the Wii U.

For gamers wondering how the Wii U’s power stacks up to other consoles, Ubisoft says Nintendo's version will feature all of the shaders the developers are using on other consoles. However, the Wii U hardware presents new possibilities as well. Like the other games Ubisoft revealed, many of these features revolve around the touch screen.

Ubisoft says they are prototyping a number of possibilities for the controller's touch screen: It could be used to view a persistent on-screen map, navigate the information database, fast-select weapons, or solve unique puzzles. Ubisoft says it could also be used for Assassin’s Creed’s eagle vision -- the television screen would feature a regular view of the game world while the controller screen would have a constant eagle vision view.

Ubisoft still isn’t saying which Assassin’s Creed title the Wii U game will be, whether it’s a port of an old game, the upcoming Assassin’s Creed: Revelations, or a new game entirely. It sounds like the game is in the early stages of development, but today's musings on the possibilities are a good sign for Nintendo fans who are used to lamenting the lack of hardcore games on the company’s current console.
