by Jeff Marchiafava on Jun 02, 2011 at 10:10 AM

Compared to military shooters like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Battlefield: Bad Company, the Rainbow Six series has always focused on tactics and stealth more than adrenaline-fueled action. If a Kotaku rumor is to be believed, however, a new story-driven installment of the series in the works, which will deliver a far grittier and cinematic experience than previous Rainbow Six games.

Kotaku is reporting that the new Rainbow Six title focuses on an American terrorist group that strikes New York City in retaliation for the "greed of Wall Street and the government that acts to protect them." The game also reportedly features a new cover system that transitions to a third-person perspective, and icons that help identify your teammates and other important information during missions.

Kotaku states that they're not sure if the game will be shown at E3, but if it is, we'll be sure to bring you more information on the game.
