Japanese Survey Says Price To Blame For Slow 3DS Sales

by Matthew Kato on Jun 01, 2011 at 04:37 AM

A survey by Japanese company Goo Research has revealed why some consumers in that country are reluctant to buy Nintendo's 3DS.

The survey of 1,100 people (60.5 percent female and 39.5 percent male) ranked participants' top reasons for not buying the system – which is currently selling half as many units as the PSP in that country.

Obviously a price drop would alleviate some people's skepticism, and while that's not likely to happen this early in the system's life, we do expect better games to be announced for the handheld at E3. Still, if this survey's results are valid, there are plenty of reasons on the list below (like numbers 2-4 and 7-10) that may show that the 3DS might just be one handheld too many from Nintendo.

TOP 10 REASONS FOR NOT BUYING A 3DS:

1. Price is high/waiting for a price drop

2. Satisfied by DS/DSi

3. Worried about eye strain

4. Worried about getting sick from the screen

5. Few launch titles

6. Will buy once a game I want is released

7. Satisfied by cell phone and smartphone games

8. Satisfied by PSP

9. The battery is weak

10. It's heavy and I don't feel like carrying it with me
