[UPDATE] THQ Changing WWE SmackDown Vs. Raw Name, First Trailer And Screens

by Bryan Vore on May 31, 2011 at 10:01 AM

The long-running wrestling series' next entry will simply be titled WWE '12 when it releases November 22. What else is changing?

Along with the name change, THQ revealed that the game features new "Predator Technology" with promised improvements in animation and opponent AI. The game also takes on a TV-style presentation and incorporates a new "Breaking Point" submission system.

In a developer Q&A posted on the SmackDown vs. Raw site, creative director Cory Ledesma makes a case for the new name.

"The name of the franchise evolved a couple of times over the years, and it has gotten to the point where the name doesn’t really mean anything," Ledesma says. "WWE currently doesn’t have brand wars, and the shows themselves are rarely competing against each other, so SmackDown vs. Raw as a name doesn’t really have a meaning."

"I’m pumped about it because I’ve always wanted to re-launch this franchise the right way," he continues, "and we are finally getting the opportunity to do it this year."

Check out the full Q&A for lots of details on WWE '12.
