New Winnipeg Team Coming To NHL 12

by Matt Bertz on May 31, 2011 at 12:38 PM

In response to the relocation of the Atlanta Thrashers to Winnipeg, EA Sports reiterated its early motto – If it's in the game, then it's in the game.

Earlier today, Atlanta lost its second NHL team in a row when the troubled ownership group Atlanta Spirit LCC sold the Thrashers to the Manitoba-based True North Sports & Entertainment group. With the team expected to play in Winnipeg for the 2011-2012 season, we naturally wondered if EA Canada would get the new (and unnamed) team into NHL 12.

Speaking to IGN, an EA Sports spokesperson said "We're excited to welcome the Thrashers to their home in Winnipeg for the 2011-12 NHL season. Once we have confirmation on the team's new name and jerseys, we will be taking the necessary steps to incorporate them into NHL 12. We will have more details in the near future."

While it looks like the new jerseys and new team logo will make the cut, we're still waiting to hear if EA has time to build the new arena, make changes to commentary, and/or give disgruntled Thrashers fans the option of keeping the old jerseys and Atlanta name.
