Phoenix Wright Movie May Be In The Works

by Phil Kollar on May 23, 2011 at 04:20 PM

There aren't many video game movie announcements that make me genuinely excited, but here's one with potential: According to a recent interview, acclaimed Japanese director Takashi Miike may be working on a film adaptation of Capcom's courtroom drama video game series based around Phoenix Wright.

Though Miike does not name his next film directly in a recent interview with The Huffington Post, he does provide this very telling comment: "It is a very light comedy that I am filming now, a court drama, based on a video game, the Nintendo game DS." It's difficult to imagine what other video game Miike could be referring to in this quote.

Takashi Miike has been directing films in Japan since the early '90s and is best known for more violent fare such as Ichi the Killer and the recent Thirteen Assassins. If he is in fact working on a Phoenix Wright film, it would be an interesting change of tone for the director. Anyone else morbidly curious?
