Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Cribbing From Battlefield Series?

by Matt Bertz on May 10, 2011 at 08:36 AM

According to a report from Kotaku, "sources who have seen the game in action" claim that the next title in Activision's world-beating shooter series will feature "larger maps and destructible environments." Sound familiar?

With the bulk of the senior leadership at Infinity Ward leaving to form Respawn Entertainment after the ugly divorce between series founders Jason West/Vince Zampella and Activision, development duties are reportedly being shared between the remnants of the Infinity Ward team, Sledgehammer Games, and Raven Software. Kotaku claims the narrative picks up where Modern Warfare 2 left off, with Soap, Price, and their Russian informant on the run in the aftermath their slaying of the corrupt Lieutenant General Shepherd. With Washington D.C. in ruins, you can bet this conflict is going to get ugly.

As we expected, Kotaku also reports that the game will launch this year. This is setting up to be an epic bout between two shooter heavyweights. We can't wait to see how it all plays out this winter.
