Weekend Warrior 05/06/11

by Annette Gonzalez on May 06, 2011 at 02:00 PM

The weather is finally warming up in Minnesota and the GI staff couldn't be happier! While we'll be sure to get outside to enjoy the warmer weather, we'll still find some time to chill at home and play a few games. Find out what we're playing this weekend then share your weekend game plan in the comments section.

Reiner: Hello from the year 2009! For this entire month, my weekends are dedicated solely to games that I started in 2009 and never finished. First up on the list is Tales of Vesperia. My last save date for this game is February 27, 2009. I put over 20 hours into the game, and have fond memories of it, but for the life of me cannot remember what the plot is about, or where I need to go next. This should be an amusing (and frustrating) venture.

Kato: Thinking of going back and starting Mafia II while I wait for L.A. Noire. I’m curious how the two games handle their depictions of their respective time periods. I actually pulled out Madden NFL 11 the other day because I was excited post-draft, but it’s always hard to play sports games this far along in their life-cycle, because once you know what the team’s going to do for the upcoming game, it’s almost impossible to go back to the old game. Suffice it to say, I didn’t have as good of a time playing Madden 11 as I was hoping... I should also finish off AC II Brotherhood’s Da Vinci DLC, which I’m in the middle of.

Jeff C: This weekend I plan on playing through LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean again for my review, and then I might check out some Brink. My backlog is reaching critical mass, so perhaps I should dig into that as well. My life is so hard!

Tim: This weekend will be an interesting one, gaming-wise. I plan to play some more Final Fantasy X. Actually, I hope to complete it. After that I’ll have a long plane ride during which I plan to burn through the rest of Spirit Tracks. I’ve also got FFIV: The Complete Collection, Valkyria Chronicles 2, and God of War: Ghost of Sparta to play on PSP. Along with those I plan to play some Sworcery and Game Dev Story.

Annette: Tonight I plan on finishing Portal 2 (I think I have one chapter left). The level design, puzzles, and writing have been nothing short of brilliant. Bravo, Valve! I will then return to Outland (that game is gorgeous) and will also keep making my way through one of my favorite iPhone games at the moment Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP. Bryan just brought back the second disk of Dead Space 2 so I can finally give that a go as well! Also...HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY, MOM!!! <3

Jeff M: This weekend I hope to finish up Portal 2 co-op with my brother. We managed to get through the first half with minimal head-scratching, so here’s hoping the second half doesn’t leave us feeling like complete morons. I also hope to invest a little more time on the Marvel tables for Pinball FX 2, to get ready for the upcoming Fantastic Four table. Oh yeah, I’ll probably spend some time with my mom too, since it’s going to be Mother’s Day and all…

Ben Hanson:
This weekend I won’t have much time for games, but I hope to play through the fourth episode of Back to the Future. Ben Reeves harasses me on a daily basis about this, so I should probably blast through it. It has also been too long since I’ve lost myself in the world of Minecraft, my beautiful seaside estate is just sitting there as an unfinished lean-to made of dirt.  Have a good weekend!

That's it for us. What are you playing this weekend? Also, feel free to give a shout to your mom in the comments over Mother's Day weekend!
