Crytek Cuts Staff In Budapest, Moves Kinect Project

by Bryan Vore on May 06, 2011 at 10:22 AM

Gamasutra received an anonymous tip that Crytek is taking its Kinect project Codename: Kingdoms from its Budapest studio to the Frankfurt, Germany dev house and laying off 30 to 35 people at the former location.

The Budapest studio will now focus on developing tablet games after working on the Codename: Kingdoms for two years, the source said. The source also lays the blame for the move at publisher Microsoft Game Studio's feet, saying it made a "sudden decision" to change gears.

Crytek managing director Avni Yerli offered comment to Gamasutra: "We can confirm that our Budapest studio is getting a new direction and focus."
