Star Wars: The Old Republic Could Slip To 2012

by Phil Kollar on May 04, 2011 at 02:50 PM

We heard earlier today that BioWare's Mass Effect 3 has been pushed back to a 2012 release date. Now EA has warned that the same fate could befall BioWare's other hotly anticipated title, the MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic.

Kotaku reports that during EA's investor call today the publisher admitted to an "outside possibility" that Old Republic will not be launched this year. Even in the event that this ends up being the case, EA still plans to release the game before the end of its current fiscal year, which means it would arrive in March 2012 at the latest.

EA games label president Frank Gibeau said the publisher still "fully anticipate[s]" Old Republic arriving in the second or third quarter of this fiscal year, making a late fall or early winter release most likely. Gibeau stated that they aren't ready to provide a specific release date because they want to gather data from the beta.

We'll hopefully have a better sense of how far along Old Republic is coming out of E3, so stay tuned.
