StarCraft II Factional Win Percentages Converging On 50 Percent

by Adam Biessener on May 02, 2011 at 11:02 AM

Reddit user Ctushik has collated a huge set of data from popular competitive StarCraft II website Team Liquid to create a pretty graph of top players' win percentages for Terran, Protoss, and Zerg over the last six months.

The biggest "imbalance" is a three-point swing in Terran's favor in its Zerg matchup, with humans 51.8 percent of matches. The other two matchups (PvZ, PvT) are within a single percentage point. Terran enjoyed a solid lead overall last November, winning at a 57 percent clip, but balance seems to have moved in the right direction since then. All three races are within a point of the 50 percent mark overall in the last data point, which is an impressive commentary on both Blizzard's balancing efforts and the community's dedication to discovering answers to seemingly unbeatable tactics.

Ctushik pulled the data from Team Liquid's database, so it encompasses pro games, tournaments, and leagues. This data doesn't encompass people who sit around watching StarCraft replays in an effort to improve their game. This is from the gamers who well-known webcasters make videos about. So before bringing some weak "but everyone knows 4-gate is imba" argument to the comments below, know that these players could probably peon rush you to death.
