Iwata: No New System Before April 2012
Yesterday, Nintendo officially confirmed its upcoming HD Wii successor, as well as telling the public that it would be at E3 this June. The system, however, isn't coming out anytime soon.
Iwata told investors at a conference in Japan that the console wouldn't come out until some unspecified time after April of next year. This timing jives with what we've heard from multiple, trusted sources that the new system would likely come out around the end of next year. Western developers already have the system and are working with it to supply titles for its launch.
Late 2012 may sound like a long ways away, but in terms of launch titles it's good that Nintendo is letting studios get a good long look at the system.
