In a recent investor briefing, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata revealed that the 3DS' upcoming eShop will debut in a big way. A 3D version of Excitebike will be free to download for a limited time after the eShop launches in May.

Excitebike is part of Nintendo's 3D Classics line of downloadable NES and SNES games that have had 3D effects built into them. Nintendo has only shown a brief glimpse of the 3D Classics in the past (the above image is from the original NES game). Check out Nintendo World Report's list of classics they saw at E3 last year.

Of course, Iwata didn't necessarily say this would be a worldwide deal, so there's a chance it could only happen in Japan. The eShop is only a few weeks away from launch so we'll find out soon enough.
