Mario & Sonic Begin Training For The 2012 London Olympics

by Ben Reeves on Apr 21, 2011 at 09:00 AM

The previous Mario & Sonic Olympic Games titles have scored some sales medals of their own, so it looks like Nintendo and Sega’ mascots will be reuniting for another test of the titans during next year’s Olympic games set in London.

This test of champions will be headed to the Wii and 3DS and will feature over 50 original Olympic-themed events, including new games like soccer and equestrian. A new schedule of Dream events, set within popular Mario and Sonic worlds, will round out the collection, and are sure to tire out this plumber and hedgehog…at least until the 2014 winter games in Russia.

"These games bring together two of the most beloved characters in the history of the video game industry," said Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime. "As veterans of both video games and Olympic games, they will arrive in London as a formidable team to provide fun, competitive sporting activities that friends and family members can enjoy together."

Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games will be headed to Wii and 3DS likely around the time of the Olympics next year, but an official date hasn’t been announced yet.
