The outpouring of support from video game developers to aid the country of Japan in the wake of the recent natural disasters has been truly heartwarming, but industry insiders aren't the only ones coming to the rescue. Today Sony announced that over $1.3 million in donations have been raised by PlayStation users.

The PlayStation Network has offered gamers donation links to the Red Cross Japan Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami Fund and the Red Feather Community Chest Movement for Japan and Asia since March 19, and plenty of users have pitched in.

"We would like to extend our deepest sympathies to those affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake," said Sony president, Kaz Hirai. "While we continue to make every effort to help the recovery of the affected communities in the region, I would like to express our gratitude to every single PlayStation user across the world who made a contribution to the effort."

League Of Legends users have also been generous: Riot Games announced today that over $160,000 was raised by gamers for the relief effort during a week-long promotion the developer ran, during which 100 percent of character skin proceeds were donated to the Red Cross.
